Demography – deaths and causes of deaths in the SR in 2024
The total mortality rate stabilized at the level of long-term averages in 2024. 200 people died from COVID-19 infection last year, which represents a year-on-year decrease by 62%. This was the lowest number of deaths in the last five years.

Demographic development in Slovakia in 2024
Last year, Slovakia recorded a decline in its total population for the fourth consecutive year. While mortality has stabilized within long-term averages, the sharp drop in birth rates continued.
