Construction production in June remained in the positive numbers, construction work on civil engineering networks accelerated, on the contrary, building construction slowed down
June´s year-on-year growth of total construction production was positively influ-enced by increasing new construction and by significant increase in civil engineering works. It was mainly negatively affected by the decline in building construction, abroad production also fell.
In June 2023, the volume of construction production1) reached EUR 614.8 million and year-on-year it was higher by 2.3%2). However, seasonal adjustment, construction production3) decreased by 1.5% compared to May 2023.
More than 90% of construction production was realized by construction companies in Slovakia territory. The decisive new construction4) rose year-on-year for the second month. Compared to May, its growth rate significantly accelerated and reached up to 9.1% in June. Relatively smaller components of domestic production continued to decline year-on-year. Construction production for repairs and maintenance decreased by 9.8% and for the smallest sector of other works by 6.3%.

Construction production from civil engineering works (including the construction of roads and motorways) rose for the third consecutive month, significantly faster in June 2023 – by more than a quarter. On the contrary, production from the dominant construction of buildings, which has been in decline since March 2023, also decreased by up to 6.7% in the first summer month.
The work realized abroad also slowed year-on-year, by 4.4%. Their share in the total construction production was 9%.
Development in the first half of 2023
Construction production from January to June 2023 created a volume of almost EUR 3 billion. In constant prices, it was lower by 0.1% year-on-year. The volume of inland production was higher by 0.2% than in the corresponding period of 2022. It was mainly affected by growing domestic new construction4), its value increased by 4.8% year-on-year. However, repairs and maintenance lagged behind by 8.4%, and other works went down by the fifth.
In the breakdown by production focus in the first half of this year, construction production realized on engineering constructions increased by 12% year-on-year, however the construction of buildings, which is more important in terms of share, decreased by 4.1%.
The volume of construction work abroad was lower by 3% compared to the first half of last year.
