Retail turnover also remained in negative values in June, their decline was milder than in previous months
The year-on-year decline in retail turnover continued for the fifth consecutive month, but in June a decrease in turnover was lower than in previous months. Up to six out of nine components of retail trade recorded lower turnover. The overall result of the sector was mainly negatively affected by lower turnover of large hyper- and supermarkets, as well as in specialized stores with electronics, furniture and hobby markets.
Turnover of retail trade1) did not reach last year's values also during June 2023. Their year-on-year decrease currently reached 5.1% and was milder than in the previous three months.
The result of retailers' turnover was most affected by a decrease of 6% in the most significant non-specialized stores (hyper- and supermarkets) and a drop of 14% in stores with household equipment including hobby markets, furniture and consumer electronics stores. A double-digit decline was also recorded in turnover in specialized stores with food, beverages and tobacco, as well as retail sales in stalls and markets.
Fuel stores continued to record higher increases in turnover, currently by more than a third in June, but this result was significantly influenced by a rise in the number of reporting units from the beginning of 2023. Turnover also increased year-on-year in specialized stores with computer technology by 15.2% and milder by 4.5% also in stores with cultural and recreation goods, e.g. in bookstores, toy stores or sporting goods stores.

Year-on-year development of other components of trade in June 2023
In sale and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles1), turnover increased year-on-year by 13.8%, which caused a double-digit increase in sale of motor vehicles, but also in their repair and maintenance. In wholesale1), turnover continued to decline for the fourth consecutive month, but the downward rate slowed down in June, turnover of wholesale decreased by 4.7% year-on-year. Turnover of food and beverage service activities1) increased year-on-year by 10.5% and turnover of accommodation1) by 14.3%.

Month-on-month development in June 2023 compared to May 2023
In June, compared to May, turnover2) increased in almost all components of internal trade, more significantly, by more than 15%, only in accommodation. Turnover rose in wholesale by 2.4%, food and beverage service activities by 1.9%, and retail turnover increased by 0.3%. Turnover decreased slightly only in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 1.5%.
Development in the first half of 2023
From January to June 2023, turnover of sale and repair of motor vehicles rose by 16.6%, in food and beverage service activities, turnover increased by 13.7%, and in accommodation, their increase exceeded one third. Turnover declined in retail trade by 5.7% and in wholesale by 2.7%.
